Ian Dury & The Music Students – 4000 Weeks' Holiday (1984) – Black Vinyl A landmark reissue of this rare 1984 album, long unavailable since its original Polydor release and absent from circulation except for the 2014 Vinyl Collection Box Set. This was Dury's second album and the sole release credited to Ian Dury & The Music Students, marking a creative collaboration with Russell Hardy, Rod Melvin, and American multi-instrumentalist Michael McEvoy. The sessions brought together an exceptional ensemble: Chas Jankel on lead guitar, Ed Speight and Geoff Castle (both veterans of the classic New Boots and Panties!! from 1977) on guitar and Moog synthesizer, and reggae/ska legend Rico Rodriguez MBE on trombone. The core band featured McEvoy, Rhys-Jones, drummer Tag Lamche, and saxophonist Jamie Talbot. Highlights include the single "Really Glad You Came" (performed on The Tube and national television) and "Peter the Painter," composed at the request of British Pop artist Peter Blake—Dury's former tutor at the Royal College of Art—as a theme for Blake's Tate Gallery exhibition. The iconic cover art, designed by Barney Bubbles, features Dury with the CND peace symbol integrated into his hair, reflecting his role as an official face of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in 1984. Pressed on classic black vinyl. A significant addition to any serious Dury collection and a testament to his creative reach beyond his most celebrated work.
